I’ve tried quite a few fresh and raw dog foods with Freya over the years, and there’s one part of raw feeding that has never appealed to me: actually preparing raw food myself.

The Most Important Question: Did Freya Actually Like Maev?
All the nutritional benefits in the world don’t matter much if your dog looks at her bowl like you’ve personally offended her.
Fortunately, that wasn’t an issue with Maev.
We started with the Beef Recipe, and Freya was immediately interested. I didn’t have to dress it up with toppers, coax her into trying it, or convince her that yes, this really was what I expected her to eat.
She just ate it. She’ll even eat Maev straight from the freezer, which brings me to the part that probably impressed me the most.
This May Be the Easiest Raw Dog Food I’ve Tried
I haven’t eaten beef (or any other mammal) in more than three decades, so preparing raw beef for Freya was never high on my list of fun ways to spend a morning.

Make Some Room in Your Freezer
Maev arrives frozen and needs to stay frozen, so you’ll obviously need somewhere to put it. I currently have two bags in my freezer. I was initially a little concerned about fitting them because the bags don’t stack neatly like flat frozen bricks.
It turned out to be much less of an issue than I expected.
The flexible bags can be squeezed into odd little spaces, and I managed to fit both bags onto the smallest shelf in my freezer along with chicken and my usual collection of ice packs.
So yes, you need freezer space. You don’t necessarily need to surrender half your freezer to your dog.
It’s a Premium Dog Food
Maev isn’t trying to compete with grocery-store kibble on price, and I don’t think that’s a particularly useful comparison anyway.

Transition Your Dog Gradually
Freya has a somewhat sensitive stomach, so I’m cautious whenever I change her food.

That’s a good practice with any significant diet change, particularly if your dog tends to have digestive quirks.

Yes. And ultimately, that’s the most useful thing I can tell you in a dog food review.
Freya liked it enough that I didn’t have to convince her to eat it. I liked being able to recognize what was in her bowl. And I really liked being able to open the freezer, scoop out her food, and serve it without thawing, chopping, cooking, or handling raw meat.
Maev takes something that can feel complicated and makes it remarkably straightforward.
It’s still raw food. It still needs freezer space, and you’ll still want to transition your dog gradually. But the day-to-day process is about as close to “scoop and serve” as I’ve found with raw feeding.
