OUR METHOD
Who formulates the recipes (a board-certified veterinary nutritionist or PhD animal nutritionist), whether meals meet AAFCO complete and balanced standards, and how open the brand is about quality control. These are the same questions vets are taught to ask.
We feed these meals at home to make sure dogs will actually eat them. Our testers range from small couch potatoes to high-energy hunting breeds, led by Freya, our Pharaoh Hound and chief taste tester.
Recipe and protein range, plans for allergies and sensitivities, how easy it is to pause or skip, and the honest price once the intro discount ends.
We rate products on a 10-point scale based on our testing and evaluation. Products in our Best Of guides typically score 7.0 or higher.

THE BASICS

The service builds a meal plan and portion size around your dog, often with recipe choices.
Meals are made with fresh ingredients and shipped on a schedule you can adjust.
Meals arrive pre-portioned. Thaw, open and serve, with no measuring or mixing.
HOW TO CHOOSE
Custom or standard plans. Does your dog have allergies or specific needs? Look for custom plans or special diets like grain-free, high-protein or weight management.
Know what’s in the bowl. Good brands are clear about their ingredients, sourcing and who formulates the recipes, with no fillers or artificial additives.
Scheduled around your life. Pick a service that lets you change delivery frequency, skip a box or pause without a phone call.
Look past the first box. Intro deals are generous, but box two is usually full price. Compare plans, half plans and mix-in options to find real value.

A WIN-WIN
GOOD QUESTIONS
The things dog parents ask us most before they pick a delivery service.
For many dog parents, yes. If you value convenience and want to know exactly what your dog is eating, a delivery service takes the guesswork out of feeding. If budget is tight, a half plan or a fresh topper over kibble gets you part of the benefit for less.
Most do. Many services offer plans for allergies, sensitive stomachs, weight management or specific health needs. Check the protein options before you subscribe, since some brands only offer two or three.
Intro discounts of 50% or more make the first box look cheap, but most services charge full price from the second or third box on. Your real cost depends mostly on your dog’s size and calorie needs, so run your dog’s details through the brand’s quiz to see the ongoing price before you commit.
Go gradually over about 7 to 10 days, mixing a little more of the new food into the old food each day. Most brands publish their own transition schedule, and dogs with sensitive stomachs may need a slower switch.
Raw food needs the same care as raw meat in your kitchen. Thaw it in the fridge, wash bowls, surfaces and hands after feeding, and keep it away from small children and anyone with a weakened immune system. The FDA and CDC advise caution with raw pet diets, and in 2024 and 2025 several raw pet foods, mostly cat foods, were recalled over H5N1 bird flu. If you are unsure, talk to your vet or choose a gently cooked option.
Fresh meals usually last about a week in the fridge once thawed, while frozen meals keep for several months. Always check the packaging for storage guidelines.
Most services let you pause, skip, change or cancel your plan online, though policies vary. Check the cancellation terms before you subscribe if flexibility matters to you.
Many services offer trial boxes, sample packs or satisfaction guarantees, so you can test a few recipes before committing to a full plan.
