The Food Behind the Price Tag

- Topper Plan runs 0.526 times Half Plan’s cost, not a clean 0.5, and it’s only available for dogs 40 pounds and over.

Freshpet’s own site currently lists Full Plan starting at $2.00 a day before the discount, for the smallest dogs. My model landed on $1.94 at 5 pounds, close enough to call that one independently confirmed.
Before Your Delivery Arrives
Freshpet Delivery isn’t available in every zip code yet, though it’s expanding. Freshpet’s site will tell you immediately if your zip code isn’t covered yet, and points you to their store locator for the regular retail version instead. There’s no published list of excluded states, it genuinely comes down to zip code and delivery logistics, so check before you get attached to a specific plan.
One thing almost nobody mentions: refrigerated food delivered to your porch is only as safe as the time it spends sitting there. The FDA recommends keeping refrigerated pet food at 40°F or below, so if you know you won’t be home, it’s worth scheduling delivery for a day you will be, and getting it into the fridge as soon as it arrives rather than letting it sit in the heat.
Once it’s in your hands, don’t switch your dog over all at once:
- Days 1 to 3: 25% new food, 75% old food
- Days 4 to 6: 50/50
- Days 7 to 10: 75% new food, 25% old food
- Day 11 and on: 100% new food
